Vocation Meditation -
Second Sunday of Advent 2010
"Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight"
John the Baptist in today's Advent Gospel challenges his people to prepare for the longed-for Messiah: 'Repent, turn your hearts back to God, for the Kingdom of heaven is near'. Repentance calls us to humility, to recognize and receive God's love and forgiveness for our sins. When our hearts are open, we become more fully attuned to the call of our loving Creator, and ready to be instruments for the reign of God to grow in the hearts of others, through our sharing of God's goodness and compassion.
Reflection
As Advent stirs our hearts with fresh hope, anticipating our celebration of the birth of Jesus, we are invited to be messengers of hope in our world that yearns deeply for new life and true joy.
Prayer:
God of hope, in this graced season of Advent you invite us to inner quiet for a few moments each day, as we prepare to celebrate again the birth of your Son, Jesus, Emmanuel. Let your quiet, reassuring light shine within me, that I may see more clearly to draw close to Him to be refreshed in peace, hope and joy in serving you more fully. Amen.
