Vocation Meditation -
Pentecost Sunday, 2011

“The Spirit of the Lord fills the whole world”
(Entrance Antiphon)

What it must have been like to be there when the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles and the other disciples of Jesus gathered together in prayer. So much happened, so quickly. Suddenly they were no longer afraid. They lost all their fear and hesitation about stepping out into the world in the name of the risen Christ. They received all that they needed from the Spirit to live out the commission He gave them: “Go out into the world and proclaim the Good News to all creation.”

All followers of Jesus are baptized by the same Spirit and are given what we need to live out our baptismal calling to be signs and witnesses of the Good News, that our loving God is slowly but surely reconciling all peoples back to the Divine Heart of our Creator from which we came.

The challenge for each of us is to discover how God wants us to live out our baptismal call guided by the Spirit. To say our Yes to God, we must become prayerful people, who are open to discovering more about ourselves and the gifts that God has given us. We must look for mentors and guides who can help us discern God’s Spirit teaching us how to best live our lives. A life dedicated in faith and service of others is where we will find true joy and fulfillment in our vocation. Getting connected to the project of God is a life time commitment and the greatest of all projects.
